About Get Up and Move

Get Up and Move Foundation is dedicated to improving the health and happiness of children through entertaining fitness programs. It’s a private foundation, tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3).

Our story

The people behind Get Up and Move are game developers. They’ve been making music and rhythm video games since 2000, and dozens of their dance, music and rhythm games have been released.

In that time, they’ve seen dance games get people moving who never cared for sports: kids lining up for another turn at events, and friends who used the games to lose weight, stay fit and build confidence.

The foundation was set up to bring that to more kids, in PE classes, after-school clubs, gyms and community centers.

Around the world

Long before there was a program, schools and youth programs found our games. From an after-school program in Spain to a high school in Slovakia, they set up dance pads and a projector and got kids dancing.

We’re building what they had to work out on their own: a ready-to-run classroom program, help getting started, and a way for students to see their progress.

What we’re building

For schools

Dance Games in PE

An eight-week PE unit built around one dance machine and four rotating stations, so every student plays a song on the machine every class.

In development

Whole Class Mode

One projected screen shows three levels of steps side by side, and every student dances every song on a taped floor grid. No dance machine needed.

In development

StepUp

Where students and teachers follow progress: songs, personal bests, levels and badges. The demo shows what students would see.

In planning

Exergame!

A drop-in dance-game activity for gyms, YMCAs, rec centers and after-school programs.

The machine we recommend

Our former colleagues at Step Revolution make StepManiaX, and we highly recommend their StepManiaX DX. Its two five-panel stages and 65″ touchscreen are what the dance station in our PE program is built around.
